| Description: | |
This error is caused by a cold solder joint under one of the RAM chips, mostly its the top ones, sometimes it can also be one of the solder balls under the GPU that lead to the RAM. Update:According to stephen a.j it can also be cause by a broken trace that connects the GPU and the RAM, the reason for it to break could be the flexing in this certain area. | |

This seems to be an error I see mostly on Falcon boards.
As mentioned above, easiest thing to check the RAM brick. Do this by applying
some pressure to the right hand side RAM chip on top of the MB. Most times if
you apply finger pressure to that chip and power up the box, it boots, reflow it
& your done without the need for x-clamp fix at all. Otherwise its going to
be a GPU side reflow to fix.
Stupid how the GPUs heatsinks bar runs right over it, believe that it what must
cause separation after time from heat cycling.

Mine started off with a red checkered board screen, then I turn off the xbox and
then back on and then this is where I get the 0110 error code. Have tried to fix
doing pasting GPU and CPU and replace x-clamps. This worked for several days but
went back to the same red checkered board screen and finally 0110 error code.
Would reflowing GPU and the 2 Ram chips fix the issue or will reflowing the Hana
chip help. any help would be appreciated.

Coldlm on 2011-08-15 05:33:18 :
so i discoverd today that there is a lot a people adding something on the ram
chips to connect them withGPU heatsink !
is this okay to with some thermal past ?????????????
Coldlm on 2011-08-08 16:55:20 :
so what i can do to fix it !
1- adding some alluminum just above the ram chips and under the GPU heatsink
(between the heatsink and the rams so it connected it ) can i do this and
overhet the xbox so the cold joint get back to gether without using a heat gun
!
2- or i need a heat gun to reflow the ram chips and gpu ?
pls help guys befor i use my hummer on it !
Coldlm on 2011-08-08 16:50:43 :
help pls!
okay i got Rrod a couple of time befor and i fixed it by changin the thermal
past and adding some whachers ander the xclamps ! and i added a boxer fan 220V
just above the CPU ,GPU heatsinks to keep them cool !
but one time when i was playing mafia 2 the fan got unplugged somehow (?) so the
xbox got verry hot and i saw in the screen some wierd black lines !
so shut it down to cool and when turned it on it gave me E74 with 0102,
so i tightend the the xclamps and overheated it just like in the LLAMA toturiel
!
but no luck ! this time it game 3 Rrod with 0110 though !
i guess one of the ram brakes got loose or the cold joints loosing up on one of
them !
pls any idea how to fix it !

Did reflow of the Gpu on a Achi 6000 and it works perfectly now.
xbox-jedi on 2011-05-28 19:37:31 :
ATTENTION: we repair hundreds of consoles and we have fixed several of these
0110...
we do a standard reflow and rebuild and BAM it works perfectly,
HOWEVER we did have one recently that we could not bring back, it turned into
some 002* number, and now it needs reball
enjoy!

I have just repaired this fault. Tried reflowing the GPU, it did work but only
for about 3 mins. I reflowed the 8 RAM bricks and the fault looks to have been
cured
reanimatedinc on 2011-04-07 08:08:34 :
Seems to be an issue with the GPU communicating with one of the RAM chips under
the GPU. Almost always it's a cold solder joint under the GPU, as it is
the biggest BGA.
py3m4n on 2011-04-01 14:07:59 :
This problem, along with many problems can be caused by DUST, yes DUST! If you
experience this error along with a lot of errors that point at major components.
For example Southbridge, Hana, GPU, CPU, RAM (especially top two under the
GPU's heatsink, they are a dust trap!) Always ask yourself once you can
see the innards of your 360 or the 360 your looking at. Whats the level of dust
like? I don't mean on the heatsinks, I mean on the mainboard... Personally
I alway give all the components a bath in isopropanol alcohol first during the
disassembly process ruling this out as a factor.
Clean your mainboard thoroughly and test before proceeding. You might just save
yourself a load of unnecessary work and potential problems...
temdono on 2011-03-26 03:27:06 :
I reflowed GPU and 4 memory chips (Falcon 2008), under the board/GPU (which is
located the capacitors smd). With a Rework Station (hot air) + liquid flux, pre
heat the entire board during 5min in 180ºC/200ºC (+ 1min in
250ºC). Reflow during 3min/5min in 350ºC (until the flux evaporate).
Problem (0110) solved.
Riddick77 on 2011-03-24 12:09:09 :
I found a Falcon. 0110 code. Reflow everything, not help! Then remove the epoxy
around the GPU,reflow with flux, then WORK! So,this is another GPU problem.
Riddick77 on 2011-02-23 16:43:58 :
Yes,this can be GPU error! I found a Falcon, reflow 3 times the Ram chips not
help, but when i reflow the GPU it's WORK! I recommend 60C bake the board
3-5h before the reflow, and USE FLUX!!!!
Xmods on 2011-02-12 22:14:19 :
can also be gpu i have recovered several consoles with the error by simply
reballin the gpu
Riddick77 on 2011-01-24 15:58:21 :
Yes 99% ,the 2 Ram Chip under the GPU/ top side/ .
masterfulmatt on 2010-11-25 01:43:28 :
Can confirm this can be caused by heatsink shorting capacitor, cured using
kapton tape to insulate capacitors.
bigart666 on 2010-09-30 01:19:29 :
worst error ever pain in ass tried everything had a e71 turn to 0110
Triokon on 2010-08-29 10:36:06 :
(I just achieved it that the box didnt show any errors anymore and started with
zero green/red lights, but there was only a blackscreen on TV and sounds for
just a few seconds, although the TV turned his screen to 1080p.)
Really hard to believe that a RAM chip just breaks, though the xbox was in
normal playing conditions. But it physically happened. [(Part 2 of the
comment)]
Triokon on 2010-08-29 10:35:25 :
One of my boxes had this error. In my case it wasn`t a cold solder joint under
one of the RAM chips (4 reflows, a x-clamp-fix and a penny fix would have fixed
that), but a very small brick in a corner of one the RAM chips at the downside
of the board (which looked like a small hair on the chip). I fixed this for
maybe an hour by lifting up the broken part of chip at the same height of the
other chip with a very small screwdriver. Then the 0110 occured again and I
couldn`t fix it anymore. (Part 1 of the comment)
NickdogV on 2010-06-09 06:18:12 :
Reflowing the GPU gets these repaired 80-85% of the time. If it's not the
GPU then reflow the RAM. 99% of the time it is the 2 RAM chips directly
underneath the GPU.
conker1596 on 2010-02-14 22:25:53 :
i have a 360 and one of the solder joints under a capacitors os broken. is this
the purpose of the error on my 360?
